Rivers give us water and food, trade and transport, yet they have a life-force all of their own. Rivers have connected our communities throughout history, from mountain to estuary and to the wide sea beyond. Lisa Schneidau seeks out, and shares, traditional stories about the land and our complex relationship with it, retelling old stories of danger and transformation, river goddesses, ghosts and mysterious creatures that dwell in our islands’ watery arteries.

Lisa is a storyteller and environmentalist based on Dartmoor who trained as an ecologist and has worked in British nature conservation for over twenty years. Join us to hear Lisa talk about the folklore of rivers in Britain and Ireland and tell some short traditional tales from her new book.

Lisa is the author of 'River Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland', 'Woodland Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland' and 'Botanical Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland' (all History Press). Find more information about Lisa’s storytelling performances, projects and writing at www.lisaschneidau.co.uk

The talks will be hosted by Avon Needs Trees with Susan Barker, Hazeland Project Coordinator. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A with Lisa.
