Avon Needs Trees has produced a beautifully illustrated children’s booklet on the history of the ancient Forest of Pewsham, and ANT’s small role in restoring it.
The booklets are available for a £5 donation to Avon Needs Trees. They can
be ordered by donating on www.avonneedstrees.org.uk, and by emailing
contact@avonneedstrees.org.uk
with details of where to send.
Bath-based illustrator Hannah
Sackett created the booklet.
“I think that Avon Needs Trees are
doing brilliant work,” says Hannah. “Planting trees and restoring woodland
is incredibly important. I loved working on the booklet, and I’m very happy
that it’s helping ANT’s fundraising.”
The booklet is printed on
recycled paper using high quality vegetable inks. The illustrations are
truly exquisite.
Chippenham-based Avon Needs Trees trustee Pete
Williams commented, ‘This is a lovely book, which gives a little insight
into the history of Pewsham Forest. Written for children it captures the
imagination and sparks an interest into finding out more about this lost
landscape around Chippenham.”
“I teach primary school children in
the Chippenham and Calne area,” says John Chew, Trustee of Avon Needs Trees.
“I’ll be using this booklet in my classes. It really is a work of art! We’re
truly grateful to Hannah for her work on this.”
All funds raised
go to Avon Needs Trees’ project at Hazeland, Ratford, where the charity has
bought 34 acres of mixed habitat. The charity is currently planting 10,000
trees and shrubs to help recreate one fragment of the lost Forest of
Pewsham. The objectives of the charity are carbon lock-up, improved
biodiversity, natural flood management and green space for local
people.
